Title: Stir bars
Post by: nigel_c on May 27, 2015, 05:20:07 PM
Anyone have a source for stir bars? I'm down to my last half decent sized one and need to restock.

Where are they going!

Down the jax I reckon. I've tipped the whole starter a few times into the fermenter and forgotten all about the bar being in the bottom of the bucket.

I might do a group buy on them if people could agree on a common size. Say 20mm

After a bit of googling they are pretty cheep from China.
What size would you recommend for 3L flask?

I know the flat and the ones with the ridge work well no experience with the rugby ball style

Next time you tip the whole starter into the fermenter use magnet to catch stirr bar at the bottom of a flask.

Just a quick question regarding the optimum size of the stir.  I've read a few place where they say 1 inch (26mm) and 1.5 inches (38mm) works well, but people use up to 2 inches (52mm) for a 2 liter flask.  Does anybody have any opinions on what size is sufficient?

I'm currently piecing together a diy stir plate and just wondering if the magnet placement will have a knock on effect to the size of the stir bar.

it totally depends on the space you have the magnet underneath set at
Bigger gap bigger bar.
