Title: Mash Tun Leak
Post by: cpb on May 29, 2015, 01:52:32 PM
Hey Guys,
I had just going to start mashing for a brew and water started to leak from around the valve of my mash tun.
I emptied it out and took the valve out. And now it appears that I have a crack around the hole for the valve (see photo).

So my question is, can I save my mash tun? Or should I just get a new cooler?

Thanks,
C

Food grade epoxy or even food grade silicone? might be pricey enough that it'd be almost as cheap to replace though.

I'm sure I've seen this happen before and think the end result was to seal it up and use it as a picnic cooler!
I suspect that the issue here is that the outer wall and inner wall were pulled together with no support in the void.
The trick here is to cut the outer wall to allow all sealing to take place on the inner wall only.
Unfortunately it is too late for that in this case.
