I have two cast iron enamel baths and thought they could do as a mash tun, HLT & Boil kettle they are chip free and seem structurally sound what do you guys think?.
The picture is a rocket stove heated bath, we could surely apply this to brewing?
Thanks lads.
I hear banjo's playing in the forest...
Your not selling this hooch are you Tickle?
Enamel is fine with wort. I use an enamel mash tun/boiler myself - a hacked lidl jammaker. Wouldn't have quite the same capacity as you though :P
Where enamel becomes a problem is with the underlying material rusting once it chips, so you have to be careful handling it to avoid chipping - and of course drilling holes in it will therefore be problematic (but not impossible).
And since you're planning on using them as hlt, mash tun and boiler etc. why not go all they way and use one as an open fermentor ??? ;D
i think we have found the perfect spot for the rebels yearly bath , are you close to the speckled door yenren?

BTW how big are the batches you're planning on doing? - the kit you've sourced is fucking huge!
Probably 100L bigger if we get whiskey barrel! Twill be nice to have the volume I am sick to the enamel in my teeth of running out of beer, half the time the beer is only just carbed and we get in to it I know a sin but still better than payen for it and nicer too.

Wort is slightly acidic and acid + enamel is apparently bad juju I think.
Sorry Wrong chemistry call!
Enamel is a form of glass and glass is very acid resistant. That is why strong acids used to be delivered in glass carboys, in a straw lined steel wire cage! Jeez you need to be old to remember crap like this!
What disloves glass? Caustic Soda or C. Potash. [ NaOH, KOH ]
Strong Alkalis should not be stored in glass!
there are a worrieing amount of banjo playing beard wearing types around there , more organic than hipster i fear.......or permies that collage in kinsale has a lot to answer for ...... rocket stoves and composting toilets where would you be with it all
