Title: Spiders and Filters
Post by: Partridge9 on June 05, 2015, 08:44:27 PM
Here is a place (https://utahbiodieselsupply.com/brewingfilters.php#brewfiltercombos) in Utah for nifty filters and spiders

Will and I were talking and here is the products that seem to have most interest (all 300 micron)

1: Corney Kegs dry hopper (https://utahbiodieselsupply.com/brewingfilters.php#cornydryhopper)
2: Better bottle dry hopper (https://utahbiodieselsupply.com/brewingfilters.php#betterbottledryhopper)
3: Braumeister hop spider (https://utahbiodieselsupply.com/brewingfilters.php#braumeister20)
4: 6 X 14 inch Hop Filter (https://utahbiodieselsupply.com/brewingfilters.php#brewfiltercombos)
5: 6 X 19 inch Hop Filter (https://utahbiodieselsupply.com/brewingfilters.php#brewfiltercombos)

Will and myself are hoping to bulk order on certain items to save money - so if you could order the above it would be easier.
There is 300 and 400 micron. The 400 are good enough for flowers and 300 is needed for pellets. The company seem to mainly deal with 300 as pellets are the norm these days.

We can add or remove products depending on interest.

We wont know pricing until we know numbers and get a deal from this crowd.

Item number five is a combo deal..

Is it!?....  I saw a 6x19 filter for $95.... Also saw a 6x19+corny spider for $136.       (The 14" one is $75)

Link 5 does in fact take you to the combo page. But as there are a lot of combinations I suggest we think that its just a longer spider and do what I did and order the spider and the corny hopper we will make sure its the combo that gets ordered.

There are SO many bits of kit on their pages we are just try to limit the options to keep it simple. Special requests may be considered later!

@James: Maybe edit the link so its the same page as #4?

Yeah it was hard jumping between their page and this page on the mobile. I might have missed something.

There's loads of combos, the reason I wasn't pushed about the corny spider is the cheaper alternative of, fine mesh bag, marbles, fishing line. :) the spider is a nice looking bit of kit though.

I do specifically want the 19" one to suit when I'm doing 25l batches in the keggle... Don't think the 14" one would make it down into the wort?   I'm not near my keggle though so can't measure.

Same as montofk, I'm planning a keggle with 25L boils, so getting a longer one to be sure. Actually when we get closer to ordering, it would be great if you could ask them the recommended filter for a keggle with 5G batches, as that would sort a few of us out I'd say.

Just to be sure to be sure:

Hops float!

So a 10" spider with 4" of hops will be exactly the same as an 18" spider with 4" of hops. You only need the longer ones if you are doing massive leaf additions. If you are going massive then increase the diameter!

Yeah just need enough of the spider to be in the wort for the size of the kettle. They have keggle specific ones on the site, just unsure which to get. Well figure it out once prices come in anyway.

Indeed Jacob, I am sure there are enough keggles to warrant a #6 on the list. Sure James will pop it on the OP

OK, got the the keggle measured, 14" will easily make it down to the wort even if I'm only doing a half batch... Sorry for muddying the waters on that.    Just 14" didn't seem big at all when I was away from the keggle.
I'll change mine to 1x#4.... Will think about it, but maybe I could put the $20 saving towards a corny spider  :P

it's not a great combo deal is it?     If I read it right, it looks around $120 for the 14" keggle filter + corny spider.... which is about the same price as them separately. ($75+$45). ... this is turning into a decent order for them anyway, see what they can do for us.    What will import duties be like on this?

anyway, all that aside, just spotted an error in the running totals so have corrected below....

VAT is 23% but I'm not sure if we'll get additional duty on top of that. Probably need to ring or email the revenue before the order goes in so we can all have our share paid to whoever is receiving the order for us. Shipping is probably going to be real cost issue though.

Stainless brewing are cheaper & the finish is better on them. They marked down cost on anything Ive bought to avoid customs. Worth a look before ordering.

I suspect that's a SS cocoa or sugar shaker cut in half with a bit of mesh spot welded inbetween! The dry hopper I mean.
As is possibly the US versions!

However the 6 x 14 hop spider looks the business for about €70 I am sure a bulk order of these and delivery would be a lot cheaper than the states!

Maybe someone can get in touch with them and their supplier re. different sizes?
