Title: Rebel Splitters
Post by: johnrm on June 14, 2015, 10:33:51 PM
So the brew from Saturday has been hung drawn and quartered.
Off to the four corners of the Rebel County to seek its fortune... Or sow wild oats!
Time to give the lowdown on your batch, tell us how it gets on and of course, give it a name.

The batch that I have started at 1.062 or so, but only 12l, so I brought it back to a respectable 1.058.
Aerated well and inoculated with Windsor Ale yeast.
This will ferment at 18C.
I hereby name thee...
Rebel #1 - Eastern Stronghold

Yours was only 1.062? I thought we were 1.068 so just assumed there was no need to measure again.  Mine got a great deal of aeration sloshing around in the back (might take that up as an aeration technique in future! ) so added  a slurry of Mangrove Jacks British Ale yeast which I just had washed and taken off my first trial batch in the new shed. Set the temp control to 18deg,  aerated again with a air pump after two hours and left it. Next morning it had a big head of krausen and I was low on power from trying to keep it cool so looking positive so far.

I never wrote it down, so it could have been higher. The 1.062 is right

Yup definitely 1.068. I used mangrove jacks us West coast yeast, as I'm thinking it might suit the higher og. Not sure how much I ended up with keg is over half full, smells nice so far.

So I think what's happened here is that the wort wasn't chilled enough when we took a reading down there.

I checked the temp too, it was between 21-22°. Besides, the warmer the gravity sample, the lower the reading, so it still doesn't make sense.

Not one to complain about the weather, but went to check on the temperature ,and noticed it was 23. Put the whole corny into an old bucket and lobbed in ice with the water, it's slowly bring it back down. A proper fermentation chamber is definitely needed soon.
