General question, has anyone tried converting a Heineken David unit to a kegerator for corny kegs, it seems like it might work, but it isn't clear how the tap works for fitting a regular tap, or fitting 2 taps.
Could i replace the entire tap tower?
Is this a bad idea?

What area you asking exactly?
What have you got?
What are you trying to achieve?

Pics if you can really help, it messy in terms of finding a tower with the same footprint and probably better leaving as is. Apart from having heino on current tap whats wrong with it?

daithibrew

i didnt buy the unit yet, but i am looking at one.
https://www.adverts.ie/crazy-random-stuff/heineken-david-unit/15744908 - here is an old adverts post for one of them suggesting it can be done.
Here is detail on the design, which is a custom line and keg connector that works with the especial tap. https://www.welldesign.com/en/portfolios/heineken-david/

My plan is to add my own tap and use it for 2x cornies.

Assuming unit comes with taps, why would you change these?
You could either cut off the keg coupler and use cornys, or get a couple of heino kegs and fill/use these...

The David unit is not a standard tap, it explicitly uses a proprietary tap that comes with the beer line attached, the idea is that you change out the entire thing each time and there is no cleaning, etc.
You see it at the end of this video.

I dont see any benefit over sticking your own tower/taps on a normal fridge

As LordEoin said; You could buy a brand new fridge, a couple of decent flow control taps & a tower for less than that price, even better if there's something on Adverts/DoneDeal locally.

Remember to bring a corny with you when checking sizes, it's grand having the measurements but much easier when you can actually fit it in to see how it fits.

I have one and it works great. I use the heino tap and the special beer line with the clip in fitting that fits the tap. Cut off the other end and fit your corney connect. Don't get the slim corneys but get the shorter fatter ones and 2 corneys fit perfect. @sorcerers apprentice has one and he took out the tap and fitted a double one.

The top is easily removed there's 4 (I think) woodscrews securing the top which can be removed from underneath the top on the inside, I'd bought a Lindr twin tap on a Spanish adverts type website

My unit was quite noisy, I ended up replacing the fans, it's straightforward enough, when you remove the stainless panel inside the unit. The fans also blow cold air up into the tap to keep the exposed part of the tap and beer line cool.
I see the supplier have marked the fans I bought as obsolete, but have listed a replacement below
