So I did a split batch brew with two different yeast of Mangrove Jacks M44 and WLP051. During fermentation I noticed a raw red meat smell coming from the beers but wasn't sure which one. It turns out it was the M44. I tested the beer and it fermented fine but now has an aroma of red meat and tastes like a hefeweiss. Anyone ever come across anything like this before?

The WLP051 is fine and I bottled it this weekend.

I can confirm the red meat smell...also it tastes like a Weiss beer yet contains no wheat at all.

You might have a new creation a weiss  beer with no wheat :). What does the spec sheet for this yeast say about it.

Had a quick read of the pdf form for this yeast and it says nothing about raw meat :( however this might explain
Underpitching can cause lag time and issues with off flavours

Yeah, I don;t think raw meat is a common yeast aroma. I think it's f**ked.

I'll bring you a bit of melange yeast cake next week and we'll sour it 😉
