Santy was good enough to get me a keg for Christmas. Quick question how long does beer stay fresh in the keg vs bottles. I mean does it all have to be drunk quicker from a keg?

Depends on how quickly you drink the bottles. It'll stay plenty fresh in a keg if its carbed. Even longer if its in a fridge. It doesn't need to be drunk any quicker. The exception is of you're not using CO2 and hand pumping (pumping air in, not using a beer engine) it out but you don't see that very often outside of the US

Think of a keg as a  big bottle and you have the ability to take a drop at a time without having to open the big bottle. ;)
