Issues with Beer Tap

Hi,

I am having an issue with dispensing beer from my corny keg and tap. When I connect the disconnect to the keg the beer just sits in the beer line, there doesn't seem to be any flow of beer out of the tap and when I open the tap no beer comes out. I thought it might have been due to a leak somewhere in the system but as a test I disconnected the beer line from the tap and beer came gushing out. So it seems that the issue is with the tap? I took apart the tap handle and counterflow to check for blockages and clean it out but when I put the whole thing back together I cant seem to figure out what the issue is.
Has anyone had similar problems or and advice to fix?

Thanks

Pheeel

As I have been there, done that this is what I would try (one at a time to help narrow it down):

  • Make sure you've got the in and out on the correct posts
  • Borrow a tap from someone else
  • Make sure the O-rings on the posts are in a good state
  • Wrap plumbers tape around the posts and try again
  • Tighten up all the posts
  • Crank up the PSI
  • Try with another empty keg and make sure air at least comes out of the tap
  • Release the gas, take off the posts and make sure there's no crud in them
  • If those fail then release gas, take off the post and make sure the dip tube is clear

I had to do the last one once. It was annoying but no ill effects on the beer!

What sort of tap is it?
Does it have flow control?
Pics?
Have you dismantled it?
...and put it back the right way?

With the tap disconnected you could try blowing through it.
Run Sanitiser through after.

Thanks and all good ideas but they would address any issues with the keg and in and out posts. When I set up the whole system fully and just don't connect the tap then beer comes flowing out. Would that not suggest no issues with the keg/dip tube/ in out posts?

Its a celi counterflow tap. I dismantled it as much as I could last night. Took the counterflow lever off. Took the tap handle off completely and soaked all the pieces. The. I ran water through it. It more feels like there is something broken in the tap than a blockage as the taps only been used once before.

Ah, the ould Counterflow.
Thats one that sucks the beer out of your glass and puts into the keg - they're a great Job!

If it was working, then you took it apart and reassembled, now its not working, my guess is that is not assembled correctly.
These things work out of the box.
There are 2 potential stops in these taps - Tap or flow control.

Remove the flow control - open tap, blow through and see if you have any air flow.
If not - Handle is the issue.
If you have flow - examine assembly of the flow control.

For me beer wouldn't come out of one of my kegs because the orings were busted. Worth a look
