It'll be a while before I'll be able to convert kegs to HERMS. A project for tinkering with before it'll all be fully in place

Which takes me to my next thought. I don't have a dedicated rims pot for heat transfer, however I do have a pump. Would pumping the mash back on top of the grain be of use, even though it can't pick up heat on the way from a RIMS or HERMS transfer?

Wondering would it increase efficiency slightly as I batch sparge and know it loses efficient?

Generally not a good idea during the mash due to heat loss, but I always recirculate for about 10 mins or so during the lautering period before sparging

If the mash is insulated enough yes you will pick up an extra few efficiency points.

This is a good read. I have a PECO boiler that I plan to pimp out with a RIMS type system. Just need a ball valve tap and the appropriate piping and also a false bottom.
