50:50 Gas?

Hi All,

My C02 canister is empty again due to bad handling(forgetting to fully twist the valve to off on the canister due to being half cut on last serving)
Due to logistical issues can never get to Bray when AJ edge is open & last time I topped up in D & D it was €30 or more,

So I was thinking for the sake of a couple of quid more I can get the 50:50 gas from the bar company and get rid of an old empty 75:25 canister from them that I've had for years now.

Anyone foresee any problem with serving homebrewed pale ales with 50:50 gas? and maybe even a stout at one stage(I know it wont be Nitro'd to Guinness levels, but might be somewhere closer to that than pure CO2 is?)

All feedback welcome,

Thanks,

Andy

I serve all my beer and cider on 50:50 as you get in the pub apart from stout which is 75:25 and larger on pure Co2
I only use 100% co2 to carb up as to use pub gas would be more expensive and no2 doesn't go into solution and so only 50% effective
You beer will be so much smoother and loose that bite you normally get from pure Co2 and why I prefer lager on 100%

Motley have very cheap tanks and fills considering he is only making a fiver on it.
Must be some way to get Dublin members access to C02 in AJ

p.s. don't forget to join up!

Same here, never able to get to Bray.  Check with the company you're looking to swap the tank with as I believe most will only swap out 50:50 tanks instead of stout gas (75:25).

So what's the fee you'd pay motley to have your tank filled?

Does the nitro mix not mute the hops flavours?

Hi CH,

Thanks for reminder, renewed now,
I spoke with the Home bar Company, and have been told to pop into them and they will sort me out, they're only round the corner from work, my old 70/30 tank is no use to them, as they are not with BOC anymore, Will pop in to them sometime this week, would rather give them the extra few bob for 50:50, than overpay D&D twice in one year.
If I didn't already have a tank, would have taken the hand off Motley Brew, how are they for ingredients these days, may pop over to them next time the wife is working on a Saturday! and see if they can take my tank in a swap for a refill, as it would be worth getting a C02 canister too, just for carbing.

I may stand corrected on this but I seem to remember standard pub gas tanks will serve 40 kegs or that would be 80-90 cornies, however if you are using it for carbing a awful lot less

D&D?  If you've no tank to swap out be aware that you may have to pay a deposit on it.

Hiya D&D are Doyle & Doyle in Cookstown,

I got their details through Beoir years ago, they are very handy, and sound lads, but when AJ Edge were doing the same for €10, I decided it's time to start looking around.

I have a D&D keg to Canister, somewhere between 3 & 4 kg, I can't remember, I'll definitely try and swap it for a full one somewhere, shed getting too clustered as it is,
