I'm confused.. what did you add to the other 10?
Ha, ha. The other 10 were 3kg kits, so had all the fermentables required, no additions were needed!

Its says its a Winter Warmer: this means it should be above 4.5 % and with plenty of residual sweetness.

LME ends with a higher gravity compared to sugar or DME and leaves more residual sweetness/maltiness.
There certainly is plenty of "residual" sweetness. So, maybe, it is as it should be except for the alcohol content.

Bang 3kg LME into Brewmate and it shows OG 1.040, FG 1.010.
I hadn't used Brewmate before, I didn't realise I could use it for kits.
It looks like I should have added about 300g of dextrose to the brew a the beginning.

Thanks for all the help and advise.

Brewmate works fine for kits to rough out strength, colour, hop additions etc.
There's also this excel tool specifically for kits, handy as it has many of them preprogrammed for bitterness and colour:

adding some dextrose will 'thin' the beer a bit, which can be handy if using a can of LME.
Rule of thumb seems to be that you'll get away with up to about 300g, but i've used up to 500g in stout.
