I bought a perforated colander in ikea months ago for this purpose but I haven't converted it yet.

For my last boil I built a hop spider and I was very happy the way it worked (except for the way it warped but I think I've that sorted). So I'm not sure if I'll put in a false bottom now.

I measured the ikea one in case you want to try one. It's 255mm diameter and 93mm high.

I thought I found a website in the UK ages ago that sold perforated sheets in A4 size that were reasonable enough but I can't find it now. Most places are very expensive, you'd expect to pay over 30€ for a 300x300 square. The best deal you will get is if you just call into a local fabricator and ask if they have any scraps.

Hi Covey,

I remember reading one of the other members provided details of where he purchased stainless steel mesh wire - see post for details.

I was going to buy some from them but never got around to it.

Alternatively mybeerandwine have false bottoms that would just about fit a standard keg,

Cheers guys, Im have a real problem transfering to my Fermenter after the boil, I have a copper manifold in the BK but it clogs straight due to the cold break. At the moment im submerging the pump and doing it that way. Idealy i would like to pump from the far side of the tap but with the manifold blocked its a no go.

Think of investing in a bazooka screen instead of the manifold or get some stainless steel wire mesh and form a cage to fit snugly around your manifold. This would allow the cold break to form on but still should allow liquids to filter through. I have a bazooka screen myself that is a pain to clean but does a great job of clearing up the wort.

Perf sheet in small sizes (as opposed to a sheet!!) should be available from any local SS fabricator. However this stuff is not cheap!!
Remember: The Nationals are just round the corner - time to get brewing

How long is your manifold?
