Black IPA FG 1020

Is this a bit high?
It's been sitting there for about a week with no action.

High for an IPA alright, what was the OG and the yeast and the mash temp?

OG was 1060, yeast was us-05, mash temp was 66deg for 60 min and topped off with 77deg water.

Should definitely have attenuated lower then. I'd be expecting that to get under 1.012. How cold did it get during fermentation. Did you rehydrate the yeast before pitching?

Try to rouse the yeast by giving it a bit of a shake or swirl, if that doesn't get it moving again I'd throw another packet of US-05 at it. Oh and test your hydrometer is correct by trying it in water. Should read 1.000

Thanks for that. It held at 14-16deg during fermentation. Rehydrated before pitching big. I'll give her a shake now and see what happens.

What quantity of beer did you make and how many packets of yeast pitched. Also how old was the yeast and did you aerate the wort much before pitching.

Swirl it up and bump your temperature up to 18-20 degrees to help it finish.
Did the recipe have much unfermentables in it?

I had a bit of a nightmare with the boil, my boiler went on the blink and I wound up transferring the whole thing to a burco for the boil which was really vigorous. Wound up with a batch if 16l in the fv. 1 pack of yeast, aerated to bejaysus before pitching.
I gave it a shake and banged the brewbelt on last night and it bubbled a bit so hopefully that did the job.

Turned out pretty tasty, there's definitely a residual sweetness to it, happy out!

I've a black IPA on myself that's nearly ready to be bottled. Was 1.016 last time I checked which was high considering I mashed low, aerated hard and used us-05. Seem to have trouble getting low FGs I haven't really figured out why yet.
