If you only used LME it could account for the final higher than stated FG due to the fact it will not ferment out fully compared to sugar.
A lot of the kits instructions and Coopers will mention a FG when using Sugar only.

Agreed I would normally drop the liquid volume slightly as LME is only around 80% fermentable. It will still be a nice beer. Nothing wrong with a good lawn mower beer coming into the summer. The great thing with the coopers pale ale kit is it's nice drank young, so no big long wait.
Primary: Back to Black Again (Michael Jackson stout)
Secondary:
Conditioning:  Breac Donn Imperial Amber Ale
Drinking: Cascade Reaction Amber Ale, Fear Gorm Irish stout, lonesome pilgrim pale ale
Planned: imperial stout, finlandia kit hack

aye, I'd normally hold off on the LME for amber or darker beers and stouts. It can be a bit funky in pale ales and lagers.

Sorry for hijacking this thread but I've got a question about this kit. I purchased it along with 1kg of brewing sugar and 500gms of Spramalt extra light. How much spraymalt and sugar should I use? I have some carapils that I want to add to this kit to help with head retention. Its just my second attempt. First one was Coopers European Lager which turned out grand and all 40 bottles are gone so decided to try adding something different to this one. Fermenting temp for this kit should be 20-22c?
Thans in advance.

Chris

Liam you will be amazed at the difference the steeping grains will make. Personally I would use the 500g of spray malt and 750g of dextrose(brewing sugar) you can use the remaining sugar for carbonation NOT ALL OF IT use one of the free on line calculators to work out carbonation levels. http://hbd.org/cgi-bin/recipator/recipator/carbonation.html

20 to 22deg is perfect.

Best of luck

Thanks Chris. I wasn't sure of the quantities to use. I bought 2 packets of coopers carbonation drops when i purchased my first kit so i have those to use in priming. I'm looking forward to seeing what difference steeping the grains will make in comparison to what the Coopers European Lager was like. I want to get a few kits under my belt before I consider going all grain so hacking is a good stepping stone forward.
Thanks again.
