If you are talking of malted worts (beers/lagers etc) then the wort should contain all the ingredients needed for healthy yeast growth.

If your water is totally lacking in Calcium and Zinc ( highly unlikely ) then you may beed to add a bit of calcium - either as chloride or sulphate (depends on the style)

If you are talking wine from grapes then the grapes are just about perfect nutition sources for yeast growth (after all the yeasts are already on the grapes as the "bloom")
A symbiosis type realtion ship!

If you are talking about nutrient defficient worts/mashes/fruit and veg infusions the YES you do need to add nutrients.

Nutrients:

The most common are the inorganic ones like the Young's: A simple mix of ammonium phosphate and ammonium sulphate, it provide 95% of what the yeasts need in a deficient wort.

There is  a more expensive nutrient that adds a couple of the B vitamins.

If you don't have this expensive one just add a half teaspoon full of Marmite ( Guess what it is? Dead Yeast - so contains all the nutrients and trace elements that yeast needs )

As for what is in "Yeast Energiser" I have no idea. White labs sell it IIRK have a look at their website

Pitching the corrrect amount of yeast into a nutrient sufficient wort is all it takes!

Remember: The Nationals are just round the corner - time to get brewing

Thanks Will. Someone asked me about mead !!!??? and it got me thinking. I read that this needs both Nutrient and Energiser so though I would ask. Thanks again
