was going to throw on a AG brew today (while also bottling a craft range stout). and when i was setting up i broke my HLT/boiler. I was getting things ready while doing cleaning up the kitchen and i plugged in the HLT before adding water 20-30 secs later there was the obvious burning smell etc so i quickly starting putting water in which again obviously produced lots of steam, so i switched off the plug until i filled it with water to cover the element. now it is broke.  any suggestions?? it is one of these https://www.thehomebrewcompany.ie/33lt-boiler-pack-includes-hop-strainer-p-576.html

cheers

the element wont turn on. i changed the fuse in the plug. would there be another one as part of the element bit.

it is not the biggest of deals i have a few coopers kits i can throw on

If the element is all gunked up it won't turn on. Give it a good scrub and make sure it's nice and clean. Might be your problem.

I've done this before, the element gets burnt out. It's a relative easy job to replace it with a new element, such as the one in the thehomebrewcompany website. As it's a plastic boiler you can just swap it in and out

was in power city the other day...kettles startin at about 7.99. tesco may have them for 9.99

Didnt do one myself but cheap ketttles have a failsafe thermo cutout built in. Is wise to have a thermal overheat cut out switch. maybe the kettle contains a suitable element with safety ( boil-dry) cut off.....

Had got one of the 7L burco knock-offs from Aldi there to do small brews in, had it lined with stainless mesh as a BIAB.  Did one previous and worked out fine.  This time had a load of adjuncts ready to go, in it goes.  Nothing, dead as a dodo.

Took it apart, turns out it has a knock over switch on the bottom, reset it.  Off we go again, cuts out after about 2mins, take it apart again, bypass the switches.  Turn it on again, burns out  >:( I'm just going mug a witch for her cauldron tomorrow instead!!
