I got the biab kit from geterbrewed with the American apa grain ingredients in it.  I'm wondering if I need to put this through a mill or not.  It seems to have a mix of full grains and others that look like they have been crushed.  Sorry about the simplicity of this but it's my first time even seeing all grain ingredients.

U got a pic? If there's full grains they will need to be crushed. Sure give geterbrewed a shout if in doubt.

Garry

It's unlikely that they gave you some crushed and some whole. Check a few of the grains that look whole, they should crack easily enough between your fingers. The grains shouldn't be completely ground. The grain should just be cracked.

Post a pic and we'll have a look.

I've actually the same kit and the same question:

Bart, that looks crushed to me  :)

Some of the grains will appear whole but you'll find that most of them are actually cracked. This gives you a good filter when running off the wort. So there's no need to worry, get your mash on  :)

Thanks, stops me having to ask that question in a few months :)

Thanks guys,  mine looks like that pic too so happy days.  Have to get through a double stout kit and hoppy IPA and I can start this

Pheeel

I'd say it's crushed but not a very even one

Looks good to me. The husks are just cracker not powdered which will help with lautering. Though when it comes to biab some people double crush to improve efficeny, no need to worry about a stuck sparge with the bag.

DEMPSEY

As above you want the grains just cracked so the husk is intact. Looks from the pic's that a few grains got past the crusher wheels and as most of it is crushed you should be fine. In a situation you buy crushed grain in large quantities you need to make sure that as you use some of it that a mix of flour and husk is used,so a good shake up of the bag first. :)

Thanks chaps,  much appreciated.  Now I shall probably make a Bollix of my first grain brew but at least It won't be the raw ingredients at fault
