Don't know where i am supposed to stick beer reviews so i will put this here anyway to begin with.

Tried that Guinness Dublin Porter and the Guinness West Indies Porter last night, the Dublin Porter is God awful, like drinking pure liquid treacle and i like treacle, also it had a curious metallic taste on the tongue. :(

However i tried the West Indies Porter second and while it was an improvement it was still God awful,to me at least it just tasted like less concentrated liquid treacle than the Dublin Porter.  :(

At 2.49 euro/500ml they were charging enough to where i would have expected a half decent beer especially from Guinness. They would go well in a treacle pudding but that's about it,no way could i recommend either to anybody not even my worst enemy. ;D

I found the West Indies ok. It boring, I was expecting more... BUT I like the bottles so it's a half decent way to collect enough bottles for Homebrew 😄
Beer
1 is good, 2 is better, 3 is enough & 4 isn't half enough

LordEoin

same, the west indies is nice enough but the dublin porter is like thin guinness on co2

Greg2013

Interesting i found the WI was like thin Guinness and the DP was like thin liquid treacle, the WI was the better of the two but for both the dominant flavour i got was treacle and nothing else, the bottles are nice though i agree but i would be hard pushed to drink enough of either to collect enough bottles for a 23 litre batch  ;D

the dublin porter was way to light and watery.  the west indies was a bit better but not great

I could swear they are old original recipes ...

Nothing to do with diageo except brought back to life.

Only reason I saying this is I seen an ad on tv ages ago say bout 2 months were it woz portrayed they went through the old Guinness recipe book nd brought sum old recipes back to life like they were in the olden days...

Obviously don't believ everything on Tv but could be tru ...,

The Beer Nut has a good write up on the beers and the project itself. http://thebeernut.blogspot.co.uk/2014/11/whatever-people-say-i-am-thats-what-im.html

As far as the recipes go, you can be pretty sure no beers from the 18th Century were made with malt extract anyway.

That's the write up where they let him take a snap of their chemical cupboard including such things as bioprotease

Mind, being a homebrewer does strange things to you. Rather than thinking how terrible, my reaction was to google it and then think that looks cool, why can't I get that from the LHBS :-)

Sorry lads I apologize aftr reading the articles I def now know it Woz all a marketing scam 😔 , they just lost some respect

Greg2013

Just read the Beernut's blog on these and i think he did an excellent job of describing both beers,i also picked up a slight metallic from the WI so glad to see it wasn't just all in my head, all in all very disappointed in Guinness for putting out such mediocre beers and trying to fool us into thinking they were something historically special  >:(
