Mikkeller's American Dream

Hadn't heard of Mikkeller or their American Dream before, but saw it on the beer menu in the Meat Wagon in Smithfield, Dublin. A quick search online at ratebeer.com and beeradvocate.com showed some very high ratings - but at 7 euro for a 330 ml bottle I thought I'd have to win the lottery before chugging this for the night. Came across it again in Molloy's offy and decided I was totally worth it, so forked over 4.49 euro for the pleasure of the 330 ml with the funny portrait on the front.

I can't say I was disappointed - this is hands down one of the best beers I've ever tasted! Absolutely crisp and clean, light bodied with a lovely tart grapefruit finish. A wonderful balance of light caramel, toast and citrus hops through and through. Medium carbonation and creamy head remaining until the last delicious drop.

Let's just hope my lucky numbers come up in the Euromillions prize draw so I can drink this every weekend  :-*

Friend lives in Stockholm and had told me of these. It's two brothers who have setup rival pubs/restaurants and brew these beauties. If you're ever in the city they're meant to 've very special places to go for a few drinks.

Actually, it's a night out in Sweden. You go for one drink and then look for a bridging loan...
Fermenting: IPA, Lambic, Mead
Conditioning: Lambic, Cider, RIS, Ole Ale, Saison
On Tap: IPA, Helles, Best Bitter

I've had quite a few of their beers (not that one though) and they are almost always excellent. At around €5 a pop in the offie its kind of hard to justify buying them. Keep an Eye out for Beer Geeks Breakfast though, thats a brilliant beer and worth the splurge.

As for his brothers brewery Evil Twin, I've found nearly all their hoppy beer (bar the cans of Hipster Ale) to be seriously lacking. They seem to lose their freshness before they hit our shelves.

Thanks for the recommendation, I'll have a look for it at the weekend, seems to get rave reviews ... but barring a lotto win, I feel a raid on the penny jar will be happening soon  ;)

No, they have a bar in Stockholm, though I believe they started in Copenhagen:

Also, looks like he wrote a book with his wife with recipes. There's some pics online (it's all in Danish); in one you can see a recipe for Beer Geek Stout. :D
