What to do when your mash won't hold its temp, why not herms it!

Yeah I'll pick up some of that reflective bubble wrap and I have a can of expanding foam lying around as well that I can pump the lid. Hmm, thinking about it, I could even make an insert from by putting down some tinfoil and filling with the expanding foam...

Gotta love the DIY in homebrewing :)
No chance tin foil would hold expanda foam, more likely you will end up with a huge mess :)

If memory serves you had your socks off and were pressing it like grapes to get the wort out :P
i'm not reading i'm not here, its in the shed its cold out there, up to my hits with comp this week but promise you and HB pics at some point its dead easy.
Hi Ciderhead,

Now that the comp is over and the weather has warmed up I hope you have plenty free time for reading/walking to your shed and can send me on a few photos of the internals of your herms please? Just in passing I have the wiring for the PID & temperature probe sorted out. Its the wiring from the mains to the PID & SSR and on to the socket to connect the boiler to that I am interested in seeing.

I really do love this recircukating lark. Doing a small batch today and made some improvements. Drilled a hole in the lid so I can keep it closed while the temp probe and liquid is going in, as well as putting it all on one level so I can life the boil kettle easily after the sparge. Also recirculated to heat the mash tun, which is just so much easier. Also doing a simple fly sparge while it's draining.
Working away like a champ. That solar pump is just the business!
