Yeah, it's mostly from the days when revenue rode up mountains on horesback, trying to catch out the potín makers, because it was illegal to make potín without a license. Why was it illegal? Because England said it was. Overnight, thousands of otherwise innocent people became criminals.

To tie in with the other thread, if revenue declared that as of the 89h of January, ALL homebrewers must obtain a license, we'd all be criminals if we carried on without. Would we carry on without?

Potín making was a massive industry in Inishowen, Connemara and a couple of other places around the country (mainly Gaelic speaking areas, I gather). Screwed by England. (Sorry, the Welsh got it tough too).
