Jacket costs ~€12, brewbelt ~€25, STC-1000 can be built for around ~€40. It's not crazily cheap but for such a vital part of the process, it's worth a little investment.

By lagging jacket did you get a hot water tank one and just wrap it around the bucket?  Would like to know where you got one for 12 quid.

Got it in woodies. It comes in 4-5 separate sections and I find I only need to use 3 to cover my fermenter. Checked online and it was actually €14.

Just a small update I'm brewing an apa since Sunday 6th and the first 72 hours have been recoded at between 18.5-20oc very consistently . I would have liked to have it at 19oc but the majority of the 72 hours has been at either 19.5 or 20oc. I'll be keeping a watchance several times throughout the days ahead  but I wish it wasn't hitting 20oc as I think this is probably more like 21-22 inside the  fv and thats probably too high. What ye think?

Step away from it now & leave it like that for the next 2 weeks, don't even look at it; let the little yeasties do their thing.

It'll be grand.

Next on your list, temp control (highest priority) - I'd call a swing of <=0.5°C consistent, the 1.5°C might give you similar issues as last time. Your looking for constant temp more than just trying to keep it rising too much.
