Anyone know is this stuff, or equivalent, readily available in Ireland? (Heat resistant, Food Safe Silicon Sealing)
Will order online if not.

As a general rule, fish tank silicon sealant is safe . . . . the fishies are very sensitive to toxins.

So try your local pet store.

thanks for the replies lads. Checked the fernox product out with the manufacturer, seems it's not suitable to be in contact with wort being slightly acidic.
Didn't research the aquarium sealer but sounds reasonable logic.

Below was suggested to me (off forum), exchanged a couple of mails with Bond It and it seems suitable for the job.... heat resistant, food safe, good for wort, and the fungicidal aspect of it does not leech from the compound.

this is the stuff I got - Arbosil 1081 Translucent http://www.arbo.co.uk/arbo-sealants/arbosil-1081/

wouldn't recommend the place i ordered it, the first tube i got was out of date, but it's pretty widely available.

:o :o

I use this stuff to seal tap on my Bolier! I thought it was safe! Did they happen to mention what would happen if it comes in contact with Acidic wort?

something about your willy falling off or something?...   ???

Ah I wouldn't worry, I'm probably being overcautious... I asked the specific question to Fermox about wort and it being slightly acidic... They probably didn't know and aired on the side of caution.

We get to see the whole production process in beer and sometimes get bogged down in stuff that might or mightn't be important...  who knows what we ingest these days where we don't see what goes into the manufacturing process...
Suppose you can only research as best you can and go for it.... .Probably won't be sealant in our boil kettles that kills us.

Silicones have pretty good resistance to acids, wort shouldn't be much of issue.
