I've adjusted my hlt & bk volumes with water straight from the tap. However I I haven't took into consideration the differences in volume sizes once the water is heating. I've a pump I'll be starting to use in my system and want to start under letting.

So my question is this, how do you know you're adding the correct volumes if when pumping into your mash tun if they volumes different when you're ready to strike?

Measure your MT and HLT for volume using water only with a stick or a spoon in  1 litre's/2 litre markers.
Now you have established what they both hold then prime your pump lines from the HLT to establish what your line loss is.
This way you'll be able to get a loss/gain figure for all three so that when you add your grains you'll know by your HLT/MT pretty accurately.
