Parti-gyle or split batch

At the weekend I hope to get my brew on for NCB comp. i want to brew a New England and a Pale ale (I have brewed both before) but I don't really want 80 bottles that need to be drank within a month or six weeks of the bottling there.

I was thinking of splitting the batch post boil and diluting half for the pale from 1.070 to 1.050 and keeping the other half for the NE. Or am I better off doing a Parti-gyle? Has anyone got experience with both or either? Or what would recommend?

The only concern with the diluting option is that I'm worried the ibu's will be too low and I don't want to increase the buttering additions in the main brew as I don't want the NE too bitter.

Ideal use for dry hopping for flavour or just add a strong hop tea from your bittering hops.
Remember: The Nationals are just round the corner - time to get brewing

You could only use late hops, then split the batch and dilute at flameout, adding your steeping additions then. Will stop your hops being diluted and keep the bitterness smooth.
Fermenting: IPA, Lambic, Mead
Conditioning: Lambic, Cider, RIS, Ole Ale, Saison
On Tap: IPA, Helles, Best Bitter

Cheers guys. Think I'm going to do two smaller batches this time but will do a Parti gyle in the future, maybe with an imperial stout and a weaker stout. Will prob document my process/findings.
