ah yeah i know the general principal - but my question was why does the ice box freeze stuff?
Is it just because the box is smaller and insulated from the rest of the fridge and exposed to a higher proportion of the cooling pipe?

I mean - its the same pipe cooling the fridge part as the ice box part.

There is only one cooling circuit.
The ratio of cold surface to volume is small in the ice box and unregulated.
The chill area is larger, and thermostat regulated.
Once you move the ice box you break the division between the 2 areas

Sorry James, I just realized I said the same thing you!

Your correct, the cooling pipe is folded close together and it wraps around the top rear and bottom of the metal box.
