Whether you are clearing a kit wine or a country wine from fruit or a Lidl inmate brew, what do ye prefer to use as a fining agent other than time ? Is ther one fining thats good for both beer and wine ? I have some isinglass on order from HBW, is that good stuff ?

I use isinglass. Does the job usually.

Is isinglass a substitute for not cooling your beer quickly enough, i.e. eradicating chill haze etc?

Not sure Shiny but i am loking at this from point of view of kit and kilo brews as well as wines so cooling rapidly not really a factor ?

Don't think it will work on chill haze.

Greg2013

Rossa i reckon you are correct there. Probably isinglass to drop out the suspended material and crash chill for the chill haze ?

Finings will not remove chill haze.

I've only one brew done with Irish Moss (my current brew), and its currently finishing fermentation in a glass carboy - bottling tomorrow or next day - But of all the previous brews I've done, this is by far the clearest yet. Don't know how well it will hold up to chill haze, but there is a very pronounced improvement in the clarity so far.

cheers.

Its more suspended particles i am concerned with, particularily when doing fruit wines etc. Cheers.

Kwik Clear - a two stage finings, costs about E4, and one pack will clear up to 135 gallons. Never let me down, wine-making wise, yet. Bentonite can also be excellent, but can leave a deep bed of sediment.
