Asking price must be posted when selling stuff, not fair on potential buyers if you don't post a price.

Nah, it's more of a guideline to stop 'auctioning'.
Personally, I don't have a problem with auctioning either, provided all of the dealing is done publicly on the thread.
When brown envelopes and backalley deals are done through PM it's not fair on the other interested folks.
