Muntons Imperial Stout FG question

Posted this in another forum a week ago (Jim's Beer Kit) and haven't had any replies...hopefully someone can provide some info. here.

'Haven't done a brew in a while...seems to be a yearly thing with me these days :) anyway,I put on a Muntons Gold Imperial Stout 2 weeks ago.OG was 1044 and last night I bottled at 1018 (know I should have checked the FG over a few days but I thought 2 weeks was plenty after the volcano at the start). Was half way through then realised that didn't sound right.Checked the instructions and it states to bottle when FG is below 1014 for 3 days or more.I'd started so I finished...each with a Coopers sugar drop.

Thinking I'll end up with a weak (3.3-3.5%) sweet stout...that's if the bottles don't explode...and on that point, should I open the bottles to release some gas after a while if it's looking like they're heading that way?Should I pour everything back into the FV and add a new yeast?Any advice appreciated'.

After a week the bottles still seem soft as if there's been no carbonation.Hoping this isn't my first ruined brew.

Going to try a BIAB Stout next and see how that turns out.Could be the end of kits then for me after I do the ones I've left.

An imperial stout with an og of 1044? I suppose if it's written on the box it must be true  :P

It will probably be fine. One carbonation drop won't be too fizzy so if it wasn't finished fermenting then it will just be a little fizzier than normal stout. I assume you are using plastic bottles. If they start to look like rugby balls it's time to take the caps off and let some gas out.

What temp have you got them at? Try keep them over 19℃ for the first 2 weeks to let the yeast eat the priming sugar.

Muntons "Imperial Stout" :D plan to do a proper one some day or a Foreign Extra Stout clone.

For stouts I usually use just the one.Prefer it not being fizzy and drank at room temp :) bottles have been at 18-19℃ so fingers crossed.Might try one and see what it's like.

Cheers Garry.

I don't know why they call this an Imperial Stout, from my guesstimations from other homebrew forum sites *cough cough try the uk site* this kit had a low abv, which to me seems counter intuitive but there you go. Maybe it tastes good, please report back with the final verdict
Tapped: Brown Porter, Dortmunder, Rye IPA
Bottled: Barrel RIS, Barrel Red Flanders, Oatmeal Stout
Fermenting: Barrel triple, NEIPA
Planned: Pilsner, Hazy Pale Ale, something Belgian

LordEoin

hopefully it makes up for the low OG with heaps of extra flavor

I'm doing this very kit at the moment,  put extra malt in,  coffee and drinking chocolate.  Will let you know how I get on.  I'm gonna keg it but will bottle a few too

Bottles seem to be getting solid.Might turn out alright after all :D
