What are the best Pale ale kits to get? A friend's wife is asking for recommendations for Christmas present and as I don't kit I thought I'd look for advice here.

oconn

for a straight up kit all in the youngs craft series american pale ale is fantastic. cheapest currently here http://geterbrewed.ie/youngs-american-craft-beer-kits/
turns out very very well, especially with 6 weeks in the bottle. you would have to put an awful lot of work into the likes of a cooper aussie pale ale to get it to the same level. best hoppy kit ive made.

gearoid

I did the Craft Range IPA as a first kit http://www.homebrewwest.ie/the-craft-range-craft-ipa-beer-kit-365-kg-3698-p.asp
Turned out great and went down a treat with family and friends.
Complete with dry hops, hop bag, priming sugar and boxed nicely too.

I've done both the Craft and Youngs American IPA.

Craft is a lighter ale but hoppy.  YAIPA is darker, and significantly hoppy.  So both are great kits, but I wouldn't get the Youngs unless your mate is a hophead.

LordEoin

if it's for a gift I'd probably go with one of the Craft Range from HBW because you can bundle in a fermenter for about 6 quid.
There was a craft range starter kit but i can only find that with the ciders now here

@geterbrewed

We now have a Youngs American Beer Kit Starter Kit available which has been very popular for Christmas Presents;

i just don't want to see every conversation  about products turn into a place where all the different shops bombard us with links.
plus if you look above a link to your site and kits has already been used so i question the actual value your post adds to the conversation

Fair enough, I was only showing best value starter kits to help a member out, the other link is just to the beer kit on its own

not to seem pedantic about it. particularly considering no one else might care about this and you are being very polite and do have some decent deals. it is just that you are not offering an unbiased suggestion. 'best value' only means best value from your site. every shop also has starter kits each one slightly different and could claim to be the best value.
TBC have one that is a bit more expensive but does come with two fermentation buckets but has no beer kit.
where as their Bruphoria starter kit (which you can pick or choose certain items) comes in at just under 64 quid, beer kit and all.
and Mottley brew has a starter kit which, ok has a lesser quality beer kit, but in terms of equipment matches yours plus has 48 glass bottles 69.99. the next level up contains all the same plus a craft range beer kit for 75.
and not to leave anyone out. HBW has a starter kit for as low as 55euro

maybe i am in the wrong here and complaining about something that other members don't care about. so I will stop there. i have said how i feel about it.  but i am glad to see geterbrewd doing so well and welcome the offers. in the new year when i am putting my next order in I will be sure to check out your site.

I believe that our starter kits are best value as we really strive to provide the best equipment available to us at the best prices, of course you will think I have a biased view but we are passionate about this business and really are trying our best to attract a new generation to brewing their own.

In relation to why I think we are best value, all our starter kits include the best equipment available to use, with new bottle filling systems and the inclusion of no rinse sterilisers as standard.

We have also maintained our delivery rate on the run up to Christmas offering free delivery over £50/€60 whilst other homebrew stores have increased theirs to free over €150.

We have maintained pricing on our starter kits and haven't increased them on the run up to Christmas, other homebrew stores have increased their pricing, I'll provide one example;
Coopers DIY Starter Kits
Geterbrewed; http://geterbrewed.ie/coopers-diy-starter-kit-7.5kg-948.html
Homebrewwest; http://www.homebrewwest.ie/coopers-diy-beer-kit-new-with-vwp-sterilizer-246-p.asp
Thehomebrewcompany; https://www.thehomebrewcompany.ie/coopers-microbrew-starter-kit-p-1008.html

The Muntons Starter Kit at €39.95 I believe at the time of writing is the best price on the homebrew market, we want folk to start their homebrew journey with a Muntons kit so we made this a really special price.

Hi Geterbrewed,
apologies. as lordeoin pointed out you contribution to begin with was obviously sincere. the combination of this thread and the one about bottleing wands made me feel every time i looked at a conversation a shop was posting adverts and the language of advertising "we are the best" "we are the only" " we are the first" grows tiresome.
but  my reaction was not justified. you clearly are trying to engage with people and introduce them to the hobby with competitive pricing and that is great.
so for what it is worth I am sorry if i came across as a bit of an ass.
I have yet to use your store but i hope to in the new year.
I hope you have a merry christmas
