Great little Yeast starter vessel

They're expensive because they're supplied sterilised in a sealed bag.  That's why I might be able to get more if they let them go past their sterility expiry date, they're worthless for the lab then.  Also why you might be able to pick them up on Ebay cheap, lots of expensive bio stuff just gets chucked if there's  a risk of contamination at all.  So given  that the likes of us would be happy to sanitise them, they should be available pretty cheap, but you would need to know where to look. I'll keep an eye out at work, but there might well be good contacts on the likes of Ebay getting non-sterile units from the vendor for pretty cheap which would be worth finding out and spreading the word.  After all, I didn't even know these things existed before last week!
