Another Tyrone man  :)

Welcome aboard, Pepin. Languishing in Ballygawley for the weekend,  myself.

Check out the Belfast forum. Plenty of good lads on there and more meets and brew days on the horizon.

Cheers,

-Barry

Alright man hows things  ,you got anything brewing at the mo ? :)
I`m just messing about with kit brews at the moment . One of the first things i learned by reading a few topics on here , is dont trust the Coopers temp guide . it says something like 21-27c if i remember right . when it seems that 21c or so is a good spot for ale yeast :(

There is some great info on this forum .if only id known it when i put my first two brews on . a coopers wheat beer and their irish stout . both will prob sit for ages in the bottle now, trying to mellow any off tastes there may be due to the fermenter being up round 24-26c .which according to the instructions shouldnt pose any issues .

Have a new batch of wheat beer on.its wrapped in a damp bathtowle to keep it round the 20-22c mark .so fingers crossed i get something worth drinking  lol

I have brewed a couple of all grain batches,
A blonde ale, which is bottled and should be ready ina  week or two and a belgian witbeir, taht i brewed at the weekend that turned outa  bit of a disaster!
My OG turned out WAY below what it should be acorrding to the recipe.
In the middle of teh mash my thermometer packed up, so i had to guess the temperatures for teh sparge a bit, so i would say that would account for some of it. however I eneded up very low.
From doing a bit of reading, it may also have been that i sparged too quickly.

ANyway, going by my OG reading, i am likely to have a 2-2.5% wheatbeer, which isnt very good!!

tempted to throw some raspberries into the fermenter (i seen this in another recipe) and then i would have something for the ladies to drinkwitha low alcohol level.
the missus is on to me to try and brew something she would like anyway!
otherwise , the batch looks like it will be a bit of a waste!  :-\

Fair play for jumping into the all grain man . have the feeling it will be a good while before i have a stab at that .
im thinking of making a low ABV summer wheatbeer . if i can find a way to keep some good body to it . but can see that being an issue if your forking out on lots of malt to make a stronger one . i take it the beer should be round the 5% mark aye ?
