Qs

Is it ok to put a full 5 gallon PET carboy onto a standard glass fridge shelf?

Simon_

Risky.
I've got a full 30L bucket sitting on a plastic fridge shelf right now but it's only a matter of time. I'm going to make a wooden frame that sits under the middle of the shelf this weekend.

LordEoin

One of mine cracked with 23l in a plastic PV

Qs

Thats worrying then. I wont be able to get a bit of mdf/wpb/etc till tomorrow probably. Would just throwing a few length 2x4 around the corners of the shelf be worth while to add support for a day or 2?

Pheeel

Is there are reason you can't put it on the fridge floor? Is there a hump?

Its a tall larder and I already have one carboy in there already.

Replace glass shlelves with 4 x 1 cut to length (Same stuff as lats on a bed)

Qs

I dont think that'll work.

I was only looking into this recently, from most places I've read online, most manufacturers give a max weight of 20/25 kgs. So putting a full fermenter is maxing it out. If you have two shelves, you could put them into the two slots and then put some timber between the two, this should make it a small bit stronger, but it's up to you in the end.

Qs

I'll try that for now. Cheers.

Garry

Don't give up on the 4x2's yet:

Pheeel

the safest option would be to build a frame that would fit over the bottom carboy. You could build it reinforced, bit of work though...

Check out my crap picture...

Yeah pheel I was thinking that would be the best solution in the long term. Just wont get to do it soon enough for todays brew.
