Just a random thought, would some sort of inline filter similar to those used in industrial air conditioning clear out those hydrocarbons? I'll have a chat with my local engineering company about they're data sheets.
@cruiscinlan I don't know how full the tanks are because there is no gauge on them but I can see if they weigh differently. Do you want one if there's not much has in it? I'll PM you about Galway details later today or tomorrow

You might be able do that I suppose, but for the bother and cost of running a filter you could just re-fill them with CO2 you know to be food grade.

Simplest way to find out the fill level of the mixed gas tank is to check the tare weight which will be marked on it .  Then pop it on a weighing scales and the difference is how full they are.  Tare on my mixed tank is 9.6kg for instance.

I know this is an old thread but just wondering if anyone around here has used a fire extinguisher and ahd it cause a funny taste to the beer. Got mine with dip tube out and refilled with food grade CO2 in Munster CO2. first time kegging but seems to have a funny chemically taste and I'm wondering if this could be the culprit?
