Hi
new hear but seen some excellent how to's. Could somebody advise me re I have just ordered the BIAB kit from the HBC ireland and it looks to me as the peco bucket is basic straight forward heater I am new to BIAB / allgrain hence ordered the kit(peco mash bag and chiller).I was wondering how to put in a external thermostatic control so as to be able to adjust control temp etc now i have seen the stc1000 that people use for fridge control and wondered if there is something similar that I could use for this purpose so that I can hold a mash temp and rolling boil temp. I am sure somebody will have done this before any help please.

Hi BB, Welcome to the site.

The STC is a greatr controller for both heating and cooling.

However its max temp setting for heating is 99C.

So what you do is you have a 13 amp 2 way switch and the two settings are Boil and Mash.

When in mash mode it takes the live feed from the STC heating relay and routes it to the kettle.

In Boil mode it routes the live feed straifgt to the ketttle. The STC will then just display the temperature and will max out at over 99C

Hope this helps. If you don't understand the above please say so and drawings will follow

BTW: Where are you based etc etc
Do you have a double on Beoir??

Hi Will
thanks for the help
based in yorkshire england find this the best forum
no double in Beoir
a diagram would help also when you say it will max out at 99 does that mean it will just read the temp as it is not being controlled by the stc1000 as it is straight through as if just plugged into the wall?. The double switch so that it takes it to mash temp then just switch to boil sounds good.
sorry newbie but hopefully will get my head round it
again many thanks for the reply

You're welcome BB

BTW: If you join the NHC (for a measly €10) Get'er Brewed in NI will giver you a 5% members discount and they ship to the UK

Also one of the other Irish online shops (not sure which but there are only 2 candidates: HBC or HBW)  has a UK operation that may also give you a discount.

Checkout the for sale section:

Its a win-win situation with the NHC
