Just operator error then?
You need to let it learn and then run in auto mode.

Oh I've no doubt that the operator caused all this and has no patience (not me of course)...
It takes an age to run the auto tune...

It depends on the heat source and why my 3kw 6l herms pot learns in 30 mins and two of three up and down before it nails it.
I get it to re learn in summer and winter.
I never even asked you what you are using it for?

Oh Crap

Hlt/herms.. So I have 30l water in at min, I assume it is switching on and off while learning thus being slow to heat the full 30. Now when I had just let it run it as very fast heating beyond 70.. 3kw element..
I know I should use a smaller pot for the herms but it is what it is lol

Ok so now I'm thick!!!!
I ran the auto tune last night and cut it off fue to time...
I ran it again tnite... Set it for 75c and let it run. It was flashing on and off and slowly heating 25l from 11c. It took fu****g until now from 5:45. And the bastard went up to boiling. Wtf do I have to do to get this f'ng thing to stop where I want it to..........
Any idea of what setting p/I/d should be at also cool setting cause I'm a a fing loss at this stage😖😡😡😡😡😡😡😡😡😡😡😡😡

I'm now pissing myself 545 wtf!
Others note herms in hlt works but not ideal as you need a huge element to run it and you just don't get the reponse
I am guessing It wasn't in auto tune mode my sestos has a 1 2 3 setting on one of the sub menus, 1 is learn mode 3 is full on 2 is auto.
You were pumping when you were running if yeah?
Can you post some pics of you set up and a link to your manual online.
I'm just not familiar with auberins but think they are identical to sestos,

It was in auto tune, that's what is pissing me off...in normal mode it heats vv fast but doesn't stop.
I put it in on/off mode after that and it switches the element when it .2 above or below so that works.. But trying to get it to learn agggghhhh...lol it's a 3kw element from brew builder and yep I was pumping agghhhh again

I hear your pain this is all terribly familiar. I wonder could your temp sensor be dodgy. I have a spare if you want to try it. I would suggest for the herms process that you get a much smaller container for the herms pot. I used an insulated Alpack 10 ltr bucket with a 2.7kw element.

I have the sestos like the one CH mentioned. I can picture you doing this & threatening to Chuck everything out after spending another night wasted with no closer to an answer.

I found the two links about incredibly useful. I would suggest that you lower the temp from 75 to 30C when running the auto tuning. At least that way you can confirm your configuration works without having to wait for an hour. It should go up past & down a few times before stabilising. I would strongly advise spending time doing some more research 8Over you will find somebody else who has the same problem. Last point also with respect to learning / tuning the pid as I found out you really will have to run the auto tune with grain in the mix as this is what your mash will be like. From my own short tempered bad experience on this set a timer for 1 hour when trying to diagnose it , that way at least you won't have spent another wasted evening in it. Took me nearly a week of frustration to get this through my own head. Best of luck.

Hope this helps.

Just on the hlt as a herms, it can certainly work well with your configuration as I have similar. Is there anyway to bypass autotune and get pid values manually?

ive brewed with this now but it still overheats and has to be turned off and on at source to try to control it....not fun.
AnywAys I was wondering was it the ssr? I did try a few tests on it like disconnecting pole 3 (aubern advice) and it stopped working, the LED was syncing with the controller on/off cycle...
Decided I try to run auto tune again this morning and the ssr failed...lol
This is the one I have fotek 40DA (trying to attach pic)
Hopefully that is the problem, any advice on what ssr to get now? Using a 3kw element

I've read in a few places that a lot of the fotek SSRs are fakes , there's slight differences between the two visually but huge differences when you open them up. Unless you buy from an electronics store(not eBay/aliexpress) I'ts bot guaranteed you're buying a proper one.

grrrrrr, I was kinda thinking that, it came with a Rex pid which is a pos that can't even read temp lol... Is 40a enough for 3jw element?

I say I got the same item as you as my Rex pid is also a pos. Yeah 40a is plenty the most a 3000w element will draw is 13A but it's better to buy the 40A over a 20A as it will last longer.

Lesson for today...if your spending a chunk of money on brewing don't half do the job....
I bought auberins pid from auberins,  2 pt100 sensors aRex pid and type sensor (cause it came with ssr) off eBay...ive  had to replace 2 pt100 sensors (faulty) and now the ssr and the Rex control cause They don't work.
BUY CHEAP BUY TWICE..
BUY RIGHT BUY ONCE.

Off to auberins ... Credit card at the ready...lol
