Oatmeal IPA

I've recently really enjoyed Rollover Session IPA from Whiplash. This is murky stuff which looking at the ingredients appears to come from the oats. I've had the GB oat IPA too and liked it so I wanted to try something similar. I'm basically going for a session IPA with oats in it (because I think thats what makes Rollover work compared to other session IPAs). I'm basically going for a simple grain bill with the oats added and then hop the bejaysus out of it with the fruitiest american hops.

Heres what I've got so far:

4.00 kg Minch Pale Malt (1.8 SRM) Grain 1 71.4 %
0.50 kg Cara-Pils/Dextrine (2.0 SRM) Grain 2 8.9 %
0.50 kg Oats, Flaked (1.0 SRM) Grain 3 8.9 %
0.40 kg Wheat Malt, Pale (Weyermann) (2.0 SRM) Grain 4 7.1 %
0.20 kg Caramel/Crystal Malt - 40L (40.0 SRM) Grain 5 3.6 %
20.00 g Simcoe [13.00 %] - First Wort 90.0 min Hop 6 29.4 IBUs
60.00 g Amarillo [8.80 %] - Boil 5.0 min Hop 7 9.0 IBUs
30.00 g Citra [14.40 %] - Boil 5.0 min Hop 8 7.4 IBUs
70.00 g Citra [14.40 %] - Steep/Whirlpool 30.0 min Hop 9 8.9 IBUs
40.00 g Amarillo [8.80 %] - Steep/Whirlpool 30.0 min Hop 10 3.1 IBUs
40.00 g Simcoe [13.00 %] - Steep/Whirlpool 30.0 min Hop 11 4.6 IBUs
1.0 pkg California Ale (White Labs #WLP001) [35.49 ml] Yeast 12 -
40.00 g Simcoe [13.00 %] - Dry Hop 4.0 Days Hop 13 0.0 IBUs
100.00 g Citra [14.40 %] - Dry Hop 0.0 Days

The 0 day drop hop would be in the keg.

Anyone got any suggestions? Also what supermarket oats do people buy? Are the 2 minute oats by Flahavans etc ok?

Recipe looks lovely and right up my street. Apart from the oats it looks like my standard APA recipe. I would guess some of the haze in Rollover might come from the huge amount of hops added too.

I bought oats from Geterbrewed last week but Flahavans is grand too and what a few microbreweries use.

For that kind of beer you also want a low floc yeast

You should ask Jamil what he thinks of this kind of beer...

Thats the thing, I'm not using English yeast like a NE IPA, I just like the body that the oatmeal gives in the Rollover especially. So I reckon with cal ale I can get the nice full mouthfeel along with loads of late hopping for the juiciness but without the overly yeasty flavour. I have a real dislike for beer that is yeasty in the wrong ways.
