Bry 97 needs 2 Packets

Split a 50l hooker clone across 2 batches, one with 05 the other with bry97, as for a dry yeast it's best I've ever used.
Mistake was I only used one packet and had all the lovely traits associated with fermentation lag.
05 worked out well.

Don't ever be afraid to do this if you make a shit beer

nigel_c

Made the same mistake as well once.
Was a super hopped black IPA. Nearly killed my but it was just nasty.
Lesson learned.

irish_goat

Does this yeast always need 2 packs?

Leann ull

@nigel it wasn't especially nasty and just on the end, its not what I would drink and if I'm not going to I should expect others to either.
The posting of it is a reminder to myself and therapy that even experienced Brewers feck it up from time to time.
I'm consoling myself by just chucking in a shed load of Cascade and NS into its brother.

@Irish Goat yep it says so in the packet, I think if your batch was 20l or below you might scrape it but I only had one to hand, lesson learnt.

nigel_c

Well not nasty nasty. Stressed yeast. Lots of phenols. Tcp like.
I thought it was a water issue at first but after looking into the bry a bit more I put it down to that.

Leann ull

Just edging towards phenolic, Ho hum

I'm constantly dumping beer that isn't up to scratch, though I usually make myself have a few pints of it before I do to make sure I dont make that mistake again :) Sharpens the tastebuds;)
Fermenting: IPA, Lambic, Mead
Conditioning: Lambic, Cider, RIS, Ole Ale, Saison
On Tap: IPA, Helles, Best Bitter

It's an interesting thought process that you go through as well.
Looking forward to this
That tastes good, oh hang on a minute what's that on the end.
Aah shit there's something wrong with that, just try it again.
Yep definitely, then the who what where when questions start but being honest with yourself you normally remember what you screwed up at straight away.
You will only do it once

molc

Remind me, I have a vienna lager to throw out :) It wasn't the lagering method, before you pipe up!

FFS lads: as a tight fisted Welsh git this talk of dumping beer is making me feel very uneasy.

I herebye offer my services as a "court of final arbitration".

Give me the beer, you'll get a second opinion if you want it else you will hear no more about it!

It will go to a good cause [no matter how crap it is]

You have seen my fractionating column??
Remember: The Nationals are just round the corner - time to get brewing

Wing of toad, feather of cat and leg of fish⚡️💥

PS Molc if you are throwing away any of that Capital Entry as that was a right fuck up if ever I tasted one, I'll be right round😉

molc

Yeah most of that is going in me and to meets :)
