Stir Plate me arse

So I have 3 of them but after reading a post on jims recently for the last 3 starters across 6 beers I oxygenated wort with O2 and poured yeast in, no stir plate. 6-8 hours slower that normal she was away, shook twice a day, and high Krausen was as normal, I didn't have to wait for yeast to settle to pour off spent wort and beers in fermenter kicked off in usual 6-8 hours tastes as should no funky smells. No sterilising stirbars or pouring them into fermenters.
Could a microbiologist (I know we have a few on here) tell why I shouldn't be washing my mouth out with soap and advise the potential disadvantages as I can't see any.

3 stir plates?? 3???? :D

I have a stir plate, but I'm not sure why... I used to make my starters in a freshly opened mineral water bottle. Obviously I'd use the water to make the starter, shake the feck out of it, put some foil on top of it, and leave to do its thing. Never had any issues with fermentation that could have been caused by low pitch rates, so not sure why I bought the thing.

Home brewers love to make things complicated. There are many techniques and tools that home brewers love which are rarely necessary. For example, I've never seen the reason for oxygenation from a bottle - just open the tap and let it flow into the fermenter and job's done.

Think of the amount of medals you could have if you used a stir plate.  ;)

I did use a stir plate for them that's the problem, back of my office door doesn't need anymore thanks
I really should have given those ones that weren't collected back

Interesting!

Attempted a lager back in June and it didn't turn out well. Had been thinking it was because my 4L starter hadn't grown enough as I didn't use a stir plate (as recommended by brewers friend yeast calculator).

Yeah not sure about Lager yeast tbh,it's a fussy fecker
