It's a bit early to be brewing for company in May

I wanted something with normal bitterness  - was aiming for 5.7% and 60 IBUs. I'm debating whether its worth potentially wasting more hops on this with the DH. What do you think?

This is how its looking after I correct for actuals.

Qs

Do you do whirlpools regularly? I find the ibu calculations with whirlpools to be way off.

Taste it before you chuck em in, need booze in it tho
Next question about Mash efficiency, so temps how did you crush your grain etc

Up yeah?

Qs

Yeah much higher than I perceive in the beer. I don't think those calculations make a lot of sense for a homebrewer with a vol of 20-40L.

There's also a problem with Beersmith IBU calcs when you're adding late hops, i.e. 5 mins, and then doing a hop stand. The software assumes you're chilling after the boil and doesn't add on the IBUs for the 5 min addition that would come from the hop stand, making the true IBU measurement  guess work.

I did taste it this morning - have never tasted anything so bitter, but reading up on it seems like Wort can taste like this before it is fermented. I've put the time into it anyway so reckon I'll dry hop the shit out of it, see if this helps. Will update.

All I can put it down to is my mill - I reset it recently after grinding some Rye so need to go tighter with it. I'm using a Grainfather so no issues with temps etc.

Leann ull

Dry hopping will cut some of that bitterness

First pic in that article looks horrific

There are tasty looking NEIPAs, his own nice yellow beer looks good but that looks like a turbid mess. Haze is fine, turbidity is just poor brewing IMO.

+1

proof you don't need half the slurry in there

DEMPSEY

With so many brewers thinking outside the box on this beer methinks that one would need to get outside the box to think but then get outside that box to think again ;),I think ???, but if one does that then how will one know when and even how to get back inside the box let alone find the second box to get back in too as well :-\,I think :'(, P.S. not enough smiley's to choose from :D

Looking for inspiration for the GCB comp?

That's a great list of tips in that article.

@krockett, if you're still looking for help (going purely by the numbers in your recipe) you have the high IBU issue that you've identified, but you could - believe it or not - add even more hops.
You've got about 11g/litre of late + dry hops. The recipe in that link and this one hits 15g, and I've read some going as high as 20g/l.
You'll want as much fruit as you can cram in since your FG is also pretty dry for a NEIPA.
