No sorry we would be judging to a style and it wouldn't stand up to IPAs I don't think.

I'd say it would depending on the stats of the beer. The style allows for OG as low as 1.045, and bitterness as low as 35 IBUs. Have to have some serious smack you in the face flavour and aroma though.

We got some feedback regarding the style guidelines from Gordon.

Hi Thomas,

Sorry for the delay in responding.  This is a good starting point, and the BJCP will likely use it as the basis for a new style writeup.  I've got some people looking at it, and of course we have disagreements about the style.  So this won't be the official BJCP writeup, but I think it's close enough to be used in your competition.  It's certainly better than letting judges each interpret the style on their own.

Thanks for the contribution, and let me know how the judging goes.
