Hiya lads, I've my first corny coming in the post and I'm just wondering where's best to go for buying co2 bottles? Also, is it essential to have a kegerator for your corny?

Secondly. My stainless steel and cam & groove fittings on my system have a furry mould growing on them . Will a good soaking of oxi remove these? Or does something more sinister need to happen?

Where in the north are you mate? There's a place in Colinglen that does it, nifex I think it's called.

Ciaran

Yep NIFEX is the place.

It's normally around £60 deposit for the tank and then £20 for every fill after that.  Barry and myself were up 3 or 4 weeks ago.  The advice I was given was to make sure your regulator and taps are for CO2 and also sometimes they've tried to send people off with mixed gas only for them to find that their regulator won't work with it.

For cleaning most of the belfast folk use W5 Oxy Power myself included.

I'm using the Tesco own brand version of oxy thing.

Ciaran

Maybe just check the active ingredients. Also I read somewhere about being careful about the water temp as you can denatured the enzymes if it's too hot.

Good thread below, might help

Is this pretty normal compared to the W5?

Question on the oxiclean....what "dosage" do people normally use for general equipment cleaning? I normally use a couple of scoops per 5 liters but not sure if this is too much or not enough ?

Ciaran

I use a couple of scoops in 20 which is probably still overkill

Eccipoo

I'm living in andytown so colinglen as absolute spot on for me!!!

On the unfortunate mould growth....has this happened people on any of their SS stuff? I'm assuming it's been sugars that haven't been properly rinsed away. Will an oxy soak and some scrubbing sort it!

I'll probably only be brewing about 5-6 times a year, and I've only one keg....so any advice on size of gas bottle to buy?
