Theme of the competition is Summer beer. Something sessional for sitting out in the sun/warmer rain. Can be a pale ale or a Summery stout or whatever you think you'd enjoy during Summer.

Categories are
1.All-grain
2.Extract/Kit
3.Cider

And a fourth competition for label design for those not inclined towards brewing.  Poster to be uploaded shortly.

As Black Donkey are pulling out all the stops for us with beer, food, tour and hosting the competition, a small fee of €10* to cover competition entry and/or visit will apply.

Entries and money should all be collected by the club at a place of our choosing. Entries should then be delivered to the brewery early in the week of the judging, (May 16th or thereabouts), to allow adequate time for organisation. Entries should be logged and grouped by the club prior to or at the time of the hand over to the brewery (they can do this in the brewery on delivery day with the club's assistance if appropriate).

*The €10 fee covers competiton entry and the visit to the brewery. If someone just wants to come to the brewery day without entering the competition, or just wants to enter the competition without coming to the brewery, the fee is still €10. If they receive the money along with the entries, they can then budget for food etc.

Assuming there are not an overwhelming number of entries, judging will take place on the open day at the brewery. If there are too many entries, we may have to take two go's at judging. Judging will not be BJCP style, we will aim for a mix of beer pros and regular beer drinkers to do the judging. Style is less important than overall quality. Top prize for the all grain competition will be the chance to brew your recipe on the one keg pilot system in the brewery with Richard and Glenn. The resulting keg will be tapped at a festival later this year.

Max entries per person are 3 per category and each entry should consist of 3 bottles each.
Brews should be carried out between now and the competition date.
Label should be plain and have brewer's name and contact info, %abv, competition category, style(if any) and any special ingredients.

There will be a talk with the brewers and a walk-through of the brewery early in the day, followed by some food and beer in the visitor area, after which we can have the prize giving.

Prizes for the other areas are yet to be announced but I will update shortly along with details for the label competition.

Depending on numbers, a minibus can be organised to run from the train station in Castlerea to the brewery and back (Max 8 persons per trip, round trip €50 (€6.25/head)). If people are sticking around Roscommon for the night, I'm sure some of the local contingent in the club could point you towards accommodation.

This is a chance for new members of the beer club to see a production brewery and meet the regular members. If you know anyone interested in either the competition or the brewery visit, please feel free to give them the details. Share the event and build interest.

Life moves pretty fast.....if you don't stop and look around once in a while....you could miss it.

Any chance of a Dublin drop point?

I'm actually brewing something next weekend that I think would be suitable.

I work in the Sandyford area so definitely doable. Once we have closing dates etc nailed down we can organise something.

May 20th is correct. It's one of the pieces of information that are obvious in the fb invite but absent from my post. Sorry. Join the midlands beer club on fb to access the event. Will be back online regularly from Wednesday.

Could you add the info here, not everyone uses FB.

PayPal should be up and running. You can make payment to paypal.me/MidlandsBeerClub and in the info section, leave your name and whether you're attending the event or just entering a beer.
The initial entry fee is €10, which gets you 1 entry in the competition and your name on the list for the tour of the brewery on the 20th May.
Additional entries are €5 each.

On another note, we have added more prizes to the lineup. We will have lots (and lots!!) of brewing ingredients from Homebrew West, a nice big voucher from the Homebrew Company, some beer and merchandise.

Great Poster.

Love the idea of the best label design award as well!
