False Bottom

i have a false bottom like this one: http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-mPaRmW16UOg/UK1x6fk48wI/AAAAAAAAAwk/Ff1Jqk1Yf0w/s1600/DSC_6773.jpg
It came in this mash tun, but i kept getting stuck mashes, so i built all new new bits for the mash tun out of copper.
Then i thought it would be a waste to condemn it to the slag-heap, so I thought i might try it as a false bottom in my gas keggle.
It was useless. Hops got under during the boil and blocked it from draining.

What's a good false bottom for a keggle? Something that'll allow for easy drainage and little waste.
Otherwise I'll just go back to using a paint strainer bag for my hops.

Qs

Can you not just stir up a whirlpool and run off your wort without a filter?

There's always a rogue hop cone ready to clog the ballvalve

That silicone extension is where the problem lies. Too much give for the false bottom to bounce around.
If you can replace it with a solid pipe to keep the false bottom pushed down to the base of the kettle it should be good.
I use a stainless spatter screen as a false bottom in my gas keggle, I have split silicone tube around the diameter of the spatter screen to improve the seal with the floor of the keggle.

I'll give that a go. Thanks

Bigger ballvalve?

Was going to suggest a split tube too.

You could also spot weld a pin to the inside of your keggle to locate the false bottom.
With the existing tube (based on pic) movement is most likely going to be up/down, not left/right. Maybe bolt on an arm top and bottom to limit movement.
