Grassy IPA

Brewed up a typical IPA there 6 weeks ago - everything was fine on the brewday no issues other than one of the packet of hops from GEB were a bit mushy. Dry hopped in primary for 4-5 days kegged and have it on tap since.

Looks and smells lovely but I get this really grassy taste from it. At first I thought it needed more time but the taste is still there it's undrinkable.

Any ideas what it could be from?

Unfortunately I've had this twice, it's not nice at all! Was my own fault tho, id bulk bought a load of crushed grain! Incorrect storage of my grain was the problem, it just sat in my kitchen for 6/8 weeks and I used what I needed! Only order what I need now. Was the grain sitting for long?

Interesting - No think I brewed within a day or two of getting the order from GEB. I've thrown out the bittering hop (Magnum) I was using as it's cheap enough to re-buy just in case that was it.

My wife bought me John Palmer's "How to Brew" book and on off flavours he says this about grassy.

"Flavours reminiscent of chlorophyll and fresh-cut grass are most often linked to poorly stored ingredients. Poorly stored malt can pick up moisture and develop musty smells. Aldehydes can form in old malt and can contribute green grass flavours. Hops are another source of these green flavours. If the hops are poorly stored or not properly dried prior to storage, the chlorophyll compounds will become evident in the beer"

sounds like the hops you got were crap. god knows how long they sat on the shelf semi open and 'mushy'
