Does anyone use an under counter freezer for fermenting? I wonder if it would be too small as i think these tend to have a small step on the bottom.

I might be able to pick one up cheap and it might be small enough to be able to squash into the house.

I have an under counter fridge; it does have a step at the back, but the fermentor does fit in ( I had to cut some of the shelves on the door though)

A small fridge, when you over-ride the theromstat and control it with a STC-1000 can easily get to -2C or so.

For a lagering fridge "not openning the door 20 times a day - like a normal kitchen fridge" makes a huge difference.
Remember: The Nationals are just round the corner - time to get brewing

hey rukkes - your in wexford right ?

have a look at this on adverts

its free - think the thermo is shot on it but you'd be replacing it anway ?

could try that out for size if its nit suitable you havent lost any money !!!!
coz theres always something new to do

Looks like i missed out, i was meant to look at one at lunch time today but it was sold late last night before i could get out there. Doh!!!

if you can find the space try and look for larder fridge on done deal or adverts, it will give you so much more flexibility
Undercounter jobbies mean max 2 cornies because of the compressor behind the shelf at the back. I have seen an odd one with slim compressor  very rare  :(

Lifting heavy stuff out the top could be a problem?

A regular fridge at eye level, eg on a counter, would be easier to use.

I have 110 Litres(110Kgs) plus weight of glass carboys on top of my larder fridge in shed, solid as a rock :)

Agreed on the larder fridge, i use one for my cornys and they are great. I was hoping to just find something compact for lagering though

Has anyone tried lagering / fermenting lagers in their serving fridge with an additional controller a heater and some extra insulation?

I have a serving fridge and a lagering fridge no reason why you couldn't just have the one but again tall larder fridge required ideally

Below is an Stc 1000 controlling fridge and heater.

And a 60W Heater which can get up to and easily maintain without too much cycling to 25 even in my 5 Degree shed. The fridge is A-Rated
