I know the beers are great but what is the food like?

Last year it got a bit of a slagging ( rightly so ) for lack of choice/craft/imagination

QuoteOne of the lads made an interesting point last night. As these are commercial, profit-making events, anyone volunteering to work for free could be doing someone who really needs a paid job out of one.

:o

Outrageous Statement !

Was Volunteering last night - great craic - great to be involved with an event promoting great Irish Beers.

Guys its only Irish beers on sale, a lot of these business are 'fledgeling' and need support. This event promotes Irish Craft beer and promotes these Irish breweries.

Its Beoirs Bag in fairness but personally I dont feel like I'm doing someone out of a job - quite the opposite - I feel like I'm helping small businesses expand and develop - which in turn should create and maintain employment in this sector.

But I know people have different opinions - which I don't agree with - but I do respect.

If we didn't have different opinions we would have nothing to talk about ! ;)

+1 James.

If you just employ the unemployed what do they know about craft beer??

Remeber last year some young person pulling a hand-pump handle down and being surpised that the beer didn't flow out.

You need knowlegable staff at these festivals to talk up the ICB thing not put people off it!

Pieman food is the best option I've found, there's also a really nice sandwich shop beside the Spar on the northern side of the pavilion (?).

Volunteers are only there for a couple of hours so hardly doing anyone out of a job, plus they know more about the beer than most of the rest of the staff. Thing is, you're never going to be able to find a lot of trained bar staff around St.Patrick's week, never mind staff who know about craft beer.

O'Hara's DIPA should be back on today, I've asked for as many more kegs as we can get. Very tasty stuff.

Volunteers are getting free food + drinks too (and I certainly wasn't counting how many I was giving each).

With regards to the food -

I had the Steak and Porter Pie - it was fantastic !

I think to look at the event as a commercial venture whose sole objective is to make a profit is flawed.

It is true that it is organized by an events company but it objective is to promote Irish Craft Beer and try to make some money to ensure the festivals are viable. I think its great and love the idea of Irish Craft Beer festivals.

You have to appreciate these events put some of the smaller breweries on the map - it enables them to get their product to an audience that they potentially cant get to - some of them cant get taps into many Dublin Pubs. The amount of tourists ordering Irish Beer yesterday was great - think about it - these guys are going back to their homes in Italy or where-ever and talking of great Irish beer.

Export markets are tough but if people have heard of your beer - it helps.

Just my 2 cents !

Well taken care of - great night - Thanks Mr Goat !

I'll have to +1 about the beer and heat being alot better than last year.

The barstaff were very good! Thanks Thomas and James!! (Ye never let me wait for my turn to order!!)

The burger was shocking, which is a pity as I wasn't in a pie mood! Are they the same pies as were at the RDS last time? (They were really good)

@Tube I remember the burgers and hot dogs last year, both priced at under a fiver and I had both!

It's a pity I'm away for the weekend and won't be able to make it in again!
