Snap! Im planning the same. Im hoping to fit two 30l keg fermentors in a fermentation fridge (have to find one locally first)
I grinded the lip down on one keg so I can squeeze a carboy cap over it. Going to get a SS racking cane too so I can transfer under pressure to a corny like the lads were on about in another thread.
On tap: Flanders, Gose,
Fermenting: Oatmeal Brown, 200ish Fathoms,
Ageing: bretted 1890 export stout.
To brew:  2015 RIS, Kellerbier, Altbier.

Ive seen lots of US people doing that ferm chamber. I dont have the room so a tall fridge is my best option.

Cheers, I did some googling. The yanks call these dorm fridge fermentation chambers.

if u are using that fridge in the picture I would build a 3 sided insulated wall and just slip the fridge inside leaving the workings of the fridge to the outside, this way u have a very cold can or bottle fridge and the fiidge is also double insulated.

i go get some pics of kegerator

Is this the correct stc1000 to buy for a fermentation fridge?

MY new kegerator is based on a cheap basic fridge with a little ice box at top. I stripped the carcass without breaking any of the workings. It can happily take my 6-keg kegerator down to -15c. I use the original fridge thermostat having previously adjusted the adjuster inside the thermostat and have kegerator running at 4c on the cold side and 8-10c on the warmer side with no other gismos and gadgets. Shouldnt need a stc-1000 for cooling but for heating you should be able to achieve whatever temp you want.

Bren, I'm thinking of doing something similar but I want to make a fermentation chamber rather that a kegerator. I got a small beer fridge from a friend like the one in the picture.

I assume it will be powerful enough. I was going to make a box out of insulation, big enough to hold 2 or 3 fermenters. Then take the door off my fridge and cut a hole in the insulation so the fridge just sticks into the side of it. Then seal it all up with duct tape or something.

Have you any pics of your one for inspiration?

I also have an electricity meter on it. tracks current power consumption, past hour, past week, past month, total hours and total Kw/HR  Its running 300 hours so far and average is 0.2kw/hr per day. The fridge / freezer is  beside the kegerator I use this as my serving fridge and the icebox part  stores my icecubes and hops.  Just to let ye know the Fridge freezer consumes about 120watts and the kegerator consumes about 70 watts. The total power usage of the fridge/freezer versus the kegerator is about 3 times more kw/hr usage by the fridge freezer, terefore a consideration if thinking of a kegerator using an old chest freezer oir something.

My kegerator uses 4 inch walls and is far superior insulation to any version of a fridge or freezer by a long shot.
In addition my Kegerator will blast down to well into the minuses in an hour or so even with a couple of room temerature kegs just put in.

hope this helps, further questions welcome.

key point building a kegerator may be the best choice when considering the significantly expensive factor of power usage. Benefits include you can  build to suit your situ
its cheaper to run
its quick
its cheap to make ( less than 100 + a second hand donor fridge)
No wasted space
