QuoteLooks simple to me

Things always look simple if they go that smoothly  :) The problem is lots of people have reported that their plate chillers sometimes get blocked up with crud, even when they are fairly careful about filtering. That video would have gone very differently if there was a blockage.

I like the way he uses the auto-siphion though. Very handy for quick changeovers between cleaning, rinsing and sanitising. It's videos like this that start to persuade me to start saving some money!

When I cool wort with a coil I visibly see a load of break material falling out of it. Where does all of this material go when its going though a plate chiller?

I am fan of if it aint broke dont fix it!

Sometimes simplicity is glorious....coil chiller couldnt be simpler to sterilise and clean afterwards, can be custom made for your boiler, can be as long as u need it to be and......it works incredibly well!

Having said that good banter and debate on the plate chiller.....however I personally feel its someone trying to make a commercial system smaller for home brew use and like the conical steel fermenters when u look at the PROS & CONS theres as many cons as pros.
What is the distance between plates in a commercial one versus the homebrew one? I presume the commercial one is far less cloggable?

Good debate, keep it going and Id love to see one in a real homebrew setting.

You either filter or corrall your hops in a muslin bag.
Google 'Hop Stopper' - Large surface area mesh to stop the bits going into your chiller (larger surface area than a Bazooka, so less inclined to get clogged.)
Before and after use you need to flush the cooler with Boiling water to clean/sanitise.

Good question. My guess is that it gets pushed into whatever vessel the wort is transferred into after the chiller, unless there is some kind of filter in place down stream from the chiller. I suppose you would then need to rack the beer off this cold break material into the fermenter (assuming no filter was used).

Maybe I'm missing something though.

I bought 10mtrs 10mm in B&Q, I believe was 23 sterling per roll, I have 20 meters and from 10 M I went from 17-20 Mins down to 13mins I beliieve based on 7 litres a minute and ambient water temp of 6, I posted way back in Nov but cant find it now  >:(
I got it to bring my pilsners down quickly
You want 10mm, as it has bigger surface area more flow and can take away temp quicker
As Bren says I wrapped inner around a demi, the outer was around a corney
I bought a 3 euro pipe bender for the curves, which is essential.

That's a beast !! Makes me want to modify my own

Good man Ciderhead for posting ur pic, it is a beast and glad someone has copped on to make ur own as you need/ want it. The plumbing looks complicated to me on ciderheads one, mine is far simpler.

Dont forget folks as I posted..THE copper in 10mm is 60 euros for 25 metres ( 81 feet) and the solder joints are a very cheap. Ye can easily make  a super chiller for about 30-40 euros and a standard ( as in shops for 69.99) for less than 20 euros.
